This remarkable journey begins in the Maasai Mara, where you will then experience the sheer drama and majesty of one of Africa’s premier wildlife sanctuaries. The Maasai Mara’s vast plains witness the Great Migration between July and October each year, when thousands of game animals head for fresh pastures. Explore the park on game drives or by air and discover how the Masai Mara tribe have lived on these plains for centuries.
The final leg of the journey then provides the stunning climax to this incredible adventure, as you travel deep into the impenetrable forests of Bwindi, one of the last refuges of the mountain gorillas. Here, in the company of expert trackers, you will search out these majestic animals and spend an unforgettable moment of time in their company.
Following an early breakfast at the lodge you will be driven back to the airstrip for the onward flight down to the Maasai Mara. On arrival, a game drive transfer sees you arriving at Sand Rivers Mara camp in time for lunch, before heading out later on an afternoon game drive. Home to some of the largest populations of big cats on the continent, as well as more than 470 species of birds, an exploration of these game-rich plains provides endless chances for some astonishing wildlife encounters.

Lunch, DinnerThe lodge's location within the reserve makes it an ideal base from which to enjoy a range of safari activities, with the stunning early morning and late afternoon light providing excellent conditions for some great photo opportunities. Day time game drives are the main activity on offer and get guests out to see the area's varied wildlife including lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant and black rhino as well as a huge variety of plains game.
Mara provides a great opportunity to enjoy one of the park's most memorable experiences. Visits to a local Maasai village or a local school can be arranged, as can sunrise hot air balloon safaris, but we do recommend booking these in advance owing to their popularity. Guided bush walks allow you to learn more about the smaller animals that might be missed on game drives as well as the traditional uses for plants, trees and roots by the local people.
Sand Rivers Mara Camp Lunch, DinnerFollowing a final morning's safari activity, you will transfer back to the airstrip after breakfast and take a private charter flight up to Entebbe - Uganda. On arrival in Uganda, you will be transfer to Buhoma Lodge, you will arrive in time for lunch and a chance to relax. The perfect chance to orientate yourself to your surroundings, it will also whet your appetite for the adventures to come.
Buhoma Lodge Lunch, DinnerAfter an early breakfast, you will joined by your gorilla trackers and head out to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for your full day expedition of Mountain Gorilla Tracking. Mountain gorillas are amongst the most unique and fascinating mammals left on the planet. There are estimated to be around 320 living amongst the rainforests of southwestern Uganda and today you will head out in small groups, walking anything from one to three hours to find them. Once found, you will have around an hour to spend with them, quietly enjoying the interaction of the family groups before you head back to the lodge. So put your camera down and savour the moment.
Buhoma Lodge Lunch, DinnerA stunning area of natural beauty, Bwindi is home to so much more than just the gorillas. Guided walks through the forest provides a chance to see a variety of other primates, as well as an abundance of bird life. This area is also one of the last refuges of the Batwa pygmies, who have lived amongst these forested mountains for millennia. In the afternoon visit a nearby village and visit a traditional medicine man. He will show you some of the herbs that grow in the forest and talk about how they are used.
